FEDERAL PUBLIC DEFENDER
NORTHERN DISTRICT OF TEXAS
CLE PAGE
Registration is now open to CJA panel attorneys for the Office of Defender Services Law and Technology Workshop, to be held in Miami, FL, July 22-24, 2010. As with all of our programs, there is no registration fee. Please make this information available to your panel members. The Law and Technology Electronic Courtroom Presentation Workshop focuses on the use of modern technology to improve the persuasiveness of courtroom presentations. It is an intensive program where participants will learn to use TrialDirector and PowerPoint products to sharpen their direct-examination, cross-examination, and opening/closing argument abilities, with detailed application and use of these litigation tools, which have proven to be an effective and persuasive addition to lawyers’ arsenals.
In order to participate in this program, participants are required to provide their own laptop computers. General presentations and demonstrations are supplemented by concentrated small group workshops. In the smaller breakout groups, attendees receive hands-on guidance to apply the information presented in the plenary sessions using facts from a mock case file. Each participant will practice direct and cross-examination, and opening/closing arguments, using Trial Director and PowerPoint software.
Comments from past participants include, "Excellent seminar with wonderful presenters and teachers," and "Small groups and hands on experience were ideal for learning these programs."
Attached is a flyer about the program, as well as a draft agenda and a financial assistance application form, both of which can also be found on our web site, www.fd.org, where interested persons can go to register.
For substantive information about this workshop, please contact Stephen Marley. For logistical information, please contact Shemiah Schuler.
